As the year draws to a close and the season of giving is upon us, many of you may be considering making a charitable contribution to a worthy cause. We know that there are many charities in need. But we hope that, as pet owners, you will consider entrusting your charitable donation to a pet-friendly cause.
Why Donate to a Pet Charity? 
With the population of homeless and stray animals on the rise, and the overall economic hardships many are facing, many pets and pet owners are finding themselves in dire straights. Many pets are abandoned or surrendered because their families can no longer afford the daily cost of caring for a pet, just as others cannot afford the cost of life-saving treatments in an emergency.
Whatever the circumstances, there are many wonderful charities caring for pets (and their families) during their time of need. Here are a few of our favorites:
Local Pet Charities
In the Billings area, we are great advocates of the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter and the Rimrock Human Society in Roundup. These local pet-rescue organizations do an amazing job of helping pets-in-need in our area find their forever homes.
We would also be remiss if we did not mention Billings Animal Family Hospital’s own Injured Animal Fund. This fund is used for helping families in need pay for emergency care for their pets when they cannot afford it. If you would like more information on donating to this fund, please contact us.
National Animal Charities
There are a multitude of animal charities throughout the US. Throughout our work in the veterinary community, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT are doing some outstanding work in the animal rescue field, and deserve support. We hope you will take the opportunity to investigate these “pet rescue angels” this season and contribute to the amazing work they do.
